crib still working for 3.5 year old - should we switch to toddler bed?

Switched my DS to a twin on his 4th birthday. He was comfortable in his crib. If it works, why rock the boat?

How is the bathroom situation handled while they’re in a crib though? If they need to go after being put down for the night? Was he able to lowering the bars himself?

Yes switch to toddler bed or big bed.

No!!! Keep him in the crib as long as possible unless you want him not to sleep.

How do you plan to nighttime toilet train from a crib?

We had cribs that turned into toddler beds then bunk beds. We still have them and the kids are 24.

This isn’t true. Moving my kid to a regular bed at 3 didn’t cause sleep disruption. Like OP’s child, mine was capable of climbing out but didn’t, and that attitude continued after the move. It also helped with the last mile of potty training (100% self initiating) because it was now simple to get out of bed, use the bathroom, and go back.

It’s just not true that all kids go through a phase where they won’t stay in bed. Plus, some kids might go through that phase at 5 or 6. Should you keep a child in a crib until 6?

Can you take the side off the crib for a bit? We did that as our "toddler bed". Don't buy a toddler bed, because those only fit a crib mattress. Just go straight to a twin when you're ready for the next bed.
