Breaking my DailyMail habit

Just read it but maybe plan to do it less often. And, make sure you don’t buy into everything you read. You’re reading to inform yourself on what some publication is putting out there, not to make it what you believe, right?

Why would you break the habit? It pulls stories from.many places giving you more complete coverage. Definitely worth it.

OP here. It’s an interesting point that they are luring me in with gossip in an attempt to move me politically. It would never actually shift my voting. But I can see how their content has subtly influenced my perspective on criminal justice, trans rights, etc. by spotlighting (rare) cases where common sense leans rightward. If I were 20 instead of 40 it might have a significant effect.

I reflexively opened it this morning. This is the type of story I love. Niche Euro stuff with old tidbits I’m too young to have noticed when they were news.

Right there with you OP. I mostly skim the headlines and click on the celeb or random articles for entertainment.

I actually prefer the deuxmoi subreddit on Reddit. It's not officially affiliated with Deuxmoi, in fact they spend a lot of time dragging Deuxmoi because a lot of stuff she publishes is highly questionable in terms of truth. But it's more than just commentary on Deuxmoi, it's also just a general celeb gossip and pop culture discussion board, like this, but more active. The demographic there tends to skew a bit younger than here and more progressive.

I find it's like a trip to Vegas - best to get in and out quickly. I just scan the headlines and try not to take some of it too seriously. It is interesting that they seem some days to skew right, but then they'll skew left the next. And definitely, no matter what you do, NEVER read the comments.

PoLitical stuff is total garbage but celeb stories are pure gold. They also consistently cover terrible crimes. And it’s all right there, together. I don’t know where else I would find such combo.

DM absolutely publishes info about every news story before anyone else can put together an article. I check it to find out what is happening, then I actually read about stuff in other news sources. I do also enjoy all the celebrity crap too.
