Either way. They were banned for encouraging girls to pursue science.
Really?

Provide a citation for this statement. A reputable citation.

Is the Guardian reputable enough for a RWNJ? I posted it upthread, but there’s no one in the world more fragile and unable to think than a RWNJ.

“In a statement explaining the ban of the diverse resources, the school district’s board president at the time, Jane Johnson, said: “What we are attempting to do is balance legitimate academic freedom with what could be literature/materials that are too activist in nature, and may lean more toward indoctrination rather than age-appropriate academic content.”

Girls coding is “too activist in nature” and is “indoctrination” as well as not age-appropriate? You dumb clucks just want smear yourselves right into a world like Saudi Arabia, don’t you?

IOW, you don't have a citation for the statement, "They were banned for encouraging girls to pursue science." Okay.

There’s one linked already. Here it is again.

It looks like this happened a while ago and the school district fixed it though, so bravo.

So, this book does not teach coding- it is a babysitters club type book with characters that code. And the books are not really banned. That is what I get from a Google search.

This school district did ban the books but a big mobilization got the ban lifted and the stupid board member who promoted the ban voted out. Read the article.

I looked at them and considered ordering them for my DS who likes coding. But I figured out why they were banned. In the first couple books, the girls are all boy crazy. In one of the books, one of the MCs (they are 9) has a crush on another girl. Nope, these are not books that my DS will like. He wouldn't want to read about boy-girl crushes or girl-girl crushes.

Unless you have an only whom you homeschool, your DS is not the only kid in the library and what he wants should not dictate all the books available for the range of students at the school.

And I guess everything is all about your son. Small world you live in. You need to get out more.

‘According to the Central York School District, the series was never banned. Instead, the books were included on a list of resources that was later pulled.’

Why is it okay to ban books in a free country? Do we have precedence of this in our country? Sounds like some backward countries where corrupt politicians issue "Fatwa" on authors who are critical of their religion or G**. Why do republicans support it?

Yes, when I choose which books to buy for DS to read at our house, it's all about him. I'm not a school librarian. This is a parenting site.

And these books sound boring and a bit insulting for their target audience and intended purpose. But if it works, fine.

So… the books were banned. The Republican doublespeak is Orwellian. They were never banned, you see, they were just pulled from the shelves so they were merely unavailable.
