+1 These kids are all connected and looking for age-appropriate things to do! I just looked at my kids’ club sport roster (this is the only sport these kids do) and came up with 13 public and private HS represented. More than one of which doesn’t have a football team. So they decide based on teams and locations and friends and head to a game. Chaperones do not have to be one to one, I did my duty with a group this weekend. |
Thanks for chiming in Debbie Downer. Now back to the actual topic: The rule is ridiculous and punitive to the kids. As I wrote on another thread- they have crammed the Wellness and Social development initiatives down our kids throats to thr point they take away study halls to do it. Then they take away the most popular social outlet. We were at a game last week that had a separate entrance for the away team. Seems like a reasonable way to get rid of the fighting between rival schools. The rest of it makes no sense |
| After hearing about the football players shot after a junior varsity game I. Philadelphia today, let's hope they install metal detectors. I believe they already do t allow cats to drive up to the locker areas, but considering the rash of gun violence in our county recently, I hope they have players return safely to the locker rooms or buses. |
| Or maybe they could start a new sport where the opposing teams beat each other with sticks! Seriously, sports have no place in public education. They are a distraction that only helps to prioritize the worst in us. |
| The problem is The Culture. MCPS has an initiative about behavior but they don't have a plan to implement it other than barring entry. Players trash talk each other on the field but also on social media leading up to the events. The Athletic Directors and Coaches should be monitoring player accounts and penalizing violators. I would never give my children a rule that I wasn't prepared to enforce. They would think thats a joke. So do these "student athletes. " |
Equity will help in sports. Lets do a lottery like they do for academic opportunities. |
