Senior Class Fees

I would guess that kids on free lunch programs get subsidized.

OP- According to the officials at DCPS...if a parent CAN'T pay the senior class fee then they CAN'T be refused any of the pomp and cirucumstances that are afforded to other students. Now hold on to your seats...this is also true to the parent who REFUSES to pay the fee. Screeeeeeeeeech! So, I am hearing if I the parent who has paid the fee unconditionally...is pretty much at the whim of the poor and the free-loaders. How is that a teachable moment in the realm of public education?

To the early poster...you do not rent a cap and gown you purchase one. It was also stated in the DCMR under graduation requirements...that a school can't require a student to purchase and wear a cap and gown for commencement. Which I find doubly insulting because when the unfortunate seniors graduate during summer school...hence they paid the fee yet they do not benefit the amenities with their own school.

I would like to hire an event planner....this what your working with....like 60G's

144 seniors @ $250.00 = $36,000.00 for graduation
144 seniors @ $90.00 = $12,960 for prom
144 seniors @ $125.00 =$18,000 for other rites of passage that costs for seniors.

To the poster who referenced free and reduced lunch students...did you know starting next year there will be about 100 schools where all the students will recieve free lunch....if they are qualified or not? Hence the stigma of being labeled will be forever a mystery...aren't you glad about that ?

To the poster who's apparently a Rockefeller...yes $250.00 is a big deal. Next year's graduating class is doing a fundraiser...can I put you down for a $250.00 car wash or $250.00 worth of cookie dough?

My child is in a public school in va and she only has to pay for cap and gown, and anouncements. The school takes care of everything else. I believe the class speaker is paid for out of senior class funds generated from homecoming. However, I agree that after you pay for class pictures, class ring, class trip, senior prom, cap and gown, announcements, after grad party, it adds up really fast! So....you end up spending a lot more than 200. But aren't they worth it!!!

After paying college application fees, expenses to visit 2 schools and finally a deposit, I was tapped out when hit with a $200 graduation fee. I only paid half, which I thought was fair.
