Thoughts on families with expensive houses and cars who send kids to public school?

+1. I think the public schools in the DMV suburbs are better than the private schools for what I’m looking for re: education for my kids. YMMV.

I think they are silly to have expensive cars.

Former teacher: overall, you’ll get a better education in public school in this area, especially in math.

My guess is the OP sends her kids to private and thinks private is far superior. She’s 100% wrong. I saw dozens and dozens of kids come from private to public, including being a part of team meetings where these kids were discussed. Almost all had gaps in their knowledge.

This is a dumb comparison.
Private school from K-12 will cost you anywhere from $10k to $40k or more per year.

An expensive car that you drive for several years will be $80k+ for several years. So, unless you are buying an expensive car every couple of years, it's not a fair comparison.

And I say this as a public school parent who drives a subaru.

I thought homes were expensive because of public schools and whether or not they were good?

Anonymous wrote:If you are asking whether I respect parents who spend so much on a house and fancy cars that they have little left over to save for their kids’ college, the answer is no. But our public school is filled with the children of UMC parents like us who can easily afford to live in a great school district in great house with nice cars if we want them while saving enough money for retirement, to fully fund our kids college education at the college of their choice and to be full pay at a private school if we wanted to go that route. We choose public school over private because we think it’s better for our kids and (in our case at least) we support the mission of public schools and see the many cons of private.

Don’t people say you’re abandoning public education if you send your kids to private over public? Anyway, both of statements are silly.

I don't understand this. Why would I send my kid to a private school. My taxes pay for my school and the school is highly rated.

When you go on vacation, are you greedy and selfish if you choose the Days Inn over the Ritz Carlton?

OP isn’t very bright. If they didn’t want to get ratio’d they needed to have posted this in the private schools forum to get the reaction they were apparently seeking.
