Tipping culture

I’m not tipping on takeout where it’s not even a service restaurant. I just “assume” those options are built into the software and can’t be changed (which I know isn’t true) or that maybe they’re for special events where it does make sense to tip. There’s always a way in those iPad screens to say no tip.

My friends daughter started college this year and to make some extra money she’s delivering pizza on the weekends. She said half the time the customer doesn’t tip anything because their store charges a 5 dollar delivery service fee which does not go to her directly.

this is another big problem. The fees for getting delivery have gotten out of hand. First, they raise the prices and hope we don't notice. When I get Joe's pizza for pick up, calling the store gets me a $15 large pizza. But they use a third party app that charges $18 for the pizza. That's an extra 20% right there. Then they charge $5 for a delivery fee. Slice has a "Local fee" of $1, plus I have to tip. So I can go pick it up for $15 or I can get it delivered for $31 (15% tip). These fees are outrageous and they do not go directly to the store. It's now $15-20 just to get food delivered, but those of us with a 9-5 and kids don't have much option.
