| Question for OP - would you use PTO for an appointment to get your hair cut and colored, or a visit with a personal stylist, or a mani/pedi? Because your botox appointment, despite being with a medical professional., is much more similar to those types of appointments than a doctor's appointment. |
Yes, I would use PTO for that, but I'd come in the next day looking obviously different. So how do I explain PTO for a vague appointment? People will question it. |
You don’t. What kind of nosy workplace do you work that you have to explain everything? “I have a personal errand to attend to.” That’s it. When you go to a medical appointment, do you tell them if it’s for a mammogram or a cholesterol test? You probably just say “I have a routine appointment”. |
Why would I need to tell details about the doc appt? |
| I like to reduce stress in my life. I don’t want people hounding me about my appointments, as seems to be the case in your work (also, that’s super weird). So I would just take the leave or adjust hours to work longer another day and deal with it. Much easier in the long run. |
My coworkers are nosy. They don't question "I have a doctor's appointment" but they DO question leaving for an appointment that requires taking PTO. |
Seeing a physician is a doctor's appointment. There's no further analysis needed. Stop over thinking this. |
The other day I used leave to attend a parent-teacher conference. Although I put it what it was for on my calendar, I’m pretty sure my manger doesn’t regularly look at the calendars for everyone she manages so for her it was just “out for appointment.” |
You use sick leave for haircuts? Also if your co-workers are asking for the intimate details of your doctor's visit, then you need a new job. I mark "appointment" on my calendar and go do my thing. |
1. If you would use PTO for any of those things, then you should use PTO for your botox 2. You do not need to tell anyone why you are taking earned time off, you just say you have an appointment and leave. I don't understand why this is so hard for you. |
WTf? You say "I have an appointment, it's none of your business. Bye!" You need some boundaries. How old are you, btw? |
No, I use vacation time and take an entire afternoon. The fact is, using sick time for a doctor's appointment would get the side-eye, because it's just not done at this company. |
Wow - this is the first I’m hearing that doctors appts (medical and not aesthetics) can’t be covered under sick leave. This can’t be common, right? |
I am sure there are companies/managers like this, but not common |
You only use sick time if you're... sick! Not for well visits. |
