Is Little Langley worth the $$$

Anonymous
My DC attended Langley for lower school and middle school and then went to a top DC private. Langley provided an incredible foundation. The further along on the academic journey we go, the more we realize how amazing Langley is. DC entered a rigorous high school extremely well-prepared and did very well. I am forever grateful for his Langley experience. My DC is now at an Ivy.

Are you an Ivy graduate? I am wondering if these kids go to ivy schools because of Legacy or without any hooks?

The overwhelming majority of Ivy League students are not legacies. How do you not know this?

If you search the boards, most people generally seem pretty happy with Langley. We just joined, but DCUM was pretty positive about Langley back in the spring when decisions were going out (although everyone complained about lunch which I understand has changed now.) You may want to look for those threads. Recently there have been some complaints about Langley being "too woke" with regard to gender (I think that is the complaint?) but we haven't experienced this in the lower school, so it must be a middle school thing.

The thing that sets Langley apart in my view is that they are extremely focused on making K-8 the best it can be, which is a distinct objective from what you get in a K-12. There are all kinds of totally good reasons to prefer one of those over the other, or public school, but for us that focus was valuable. I have heard in particular that the middle school experience tends to be better at K-8, but yes, you pay for that by having to apply out for high school.

As to whether it's worth the money, again that is different for every family. For us, we are fortunate to have the money and would much rather spend it on Langley tuition than nicer cars (ours are old and used) or bigger house (we live in an unrenovated Cape). Our kids absolutely love going to school there.
