I've seen Schindler's List and Dunkirk, but can't imagine showing them to an 11 year old, let alone an 8 year old. PP, how did your kids handle them? What did they think?

We've watched a lot of movies since the pandemic with kids around the same ages. Here were some of the most successful for us:

Princess Bride
Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
I am Kalam (foreign flick--we do a fair amount of these--kids love them and they get a different perspective)
Children of Heaven (also foreign)
The Never Ending Story
Akeelah and the Bee
Chariots of Fire
ET
Hidden Figures
Karate Kid movies
Back to the Future
Little Women (2019)
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Rainbow Troops (foreign)
Fly Away Home
Queen of Katwe

Hacksaw Ridge - NOT this movie. Great, but for older kids.

Second recommendation for Common Sense Media. you can also Google the 50 best movies to watch with your kids.

Never once looked at a random website to determine if it was appropriate for my kids. I watched all the movies first before deciding if my kid could handle watching.

Their grandfather was a liberator at Dachau and both have been to that horrible place. They are obsessed with all things WWII.

When I saw Jaws and I was 8 years old and I talk to some parents today and they could never imagine their kid watching it at 8!

We HATE The Princess Bride in our house BTW!

Go back to all of the kids movies that came out in the 70s and 80s. I am picturing them all now in my head as they sat in their white VHS cases at video store. Benji, Herbie The Love Bug, Flight of the Navigator. I can't remember them all. But they are great and you can put them on and relax, knowing that they are all clean.

What I like about these too is that they aren't so quick and clever like today's movies are. I swear I thought I was going to have a seizure watching The Lego Movie. So many cut scenes and before you had time to process one scene it was off to the next.
