I was so excited to see a vegan thread! But sadly, I find myself coming down on the side of the in-laws here. If your interactions with them look at all like your posts here, I'm not surprised you're having a problem. Unfortunately, you're not interested in solving them.
I've been veggie, largely vegan, for about 10 years now and never had these kinds of fights with my family. Discussions, yes, plenty, and there were a few who would try and push my buttons, but I never tried to lecture them or make them feel stupid as you have here. All that to say, and I do apologize for my bluntness here - the problem isn't with them, it's with you. |
| ahh... the zeal of the convert. |

With apologies to 7:58, and other respectful posters:
"Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter faction, the vegans ... are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit." - Anthony Bourdain, Kitchen Confidential I think he was talking about you, OP (not other vegetarians and vegans (like 7:58) with with rational outlooks on life). |
20:08 here. 1. I think my feelings are hurt.
2. I LOVE that quote, that's so funny. 3. Live and let live--I hate high maintenance eaters. Either eat what's served or don't, but seriously, I don't want to discuss it. |
| I wonder how well a vegan diet supports BFing? Not trying to be nasty, but I had to work for every drop, which included eating as much fat as I could get my hands on. Clearly things like avocado and nuts are good for you (assuming you have no nut allergies in your family to worry about), but it just seems hard to get the calories needed for BFing, particularly 4.5 years of BFing, on a vegan diet. |
| You probably just need to increase consumption of oil from nuts and seeds. |
It depends if you are exclusively breast feeding the 4.5 YO or just pumping

7:58 here. Oh, I have no doubt that he's talking about me, too - but I don't care, I kinda love him anyway.
