Are they allowed to seat a sped kid in the hallway as punishment?

OP,

Glad to hear of your update. Gotta love these helpful punishments for "bad behavior." My ASD/ADHD son was kept in from recess for a over month this spring as his punishment.

Under the Health Schools Act schools are not supposed to withhold recess as a punishment or consequence. Don't let the school get away with it--its not best practice, nor is it legal.

This is the OP. Funny to see my post pop up to the top after a year. Things were ok at the new school for a while but then they got really really bad. Fingers crossed for funding at an appropriate private placement. Can't go through another bad year.

Where are you in the process, OP? Do you have a CIP hearing date yet?

We did that this year and got funding for a private school. I am so happy, I feel 5 years younger.

I am 19:47.

We too left our school for a private placement. It has been a Godsend. Good luck OP!

This is the OP. We are at the very beginning of the process, I guess. After the fun of last year and the hallway situation, this year our son was assaulted by his substitute dedicated aide over a period of 6 days -- not physically injured, but is still suffering from PTSD almost 6 months later. He missed 7 weeks of school at the end of which someone (I'm not saying it was DCPS or that someone in the Sped office threatened it) called social services on us bc they had heard that our son wasn't going to therapy and had lost 8 pounds. That's what severe agoraphobia and anxiety will do to you. Anyway, obviously we are really hoping for a private placement but I am terrified we will lose the case. I'm terrified of everything, really. I can't believe they still think they can "educate --- appropriately" but that's what they kEep insisting. I think there are some really good people who really want to be able to do a good job, but the system is still seriously broken and they are sitting there trying to fix a major water main break with Chewing gum. Keep the funding success stories coming -- they really help my morale.

OMG Do NOT hire her! She has no idea of the current law, is self-aggrandizing, and charges outrageous fees for lousy testing and reports.

Any update OP? How's the current school year going?

Do you mind telling me which school you switched to as we too are looking? Thanks

I agree. She charges a fortune and is not good.
