As a female cyclist and runner who frequents this trail, I 100% care. I have taken for granted that it is a safe area for years.

Several years ago in my neighborhood in Rockville, a woman posted about being attacked on a running trail. She wanted to warn everyone in the neighborhood. It never made the news and so only the people who saw the post were alerted to the danger. I think a) cops/men in charge don’t really care about attacks on women and b) there is a desire to not report/under report crime stats so neighborhoods seem safer.

The police worked tirelessly here. Don’t blame it on them. If it’s not being reported it’s because news agencies refuse to, based on description of suspect

The Washington Post article on this never identified the man as an illegal who had been deported several times and didn't allow any comments on the article either.

The story doesn't fit their narrative.

Correct. Once the news came out this person was in the country illegally that will be the end of the coverage.

Reminds me of the sad case years ago where the young woman was attacked in Sterling after breaking a fast for Ramadan. This was all over the new with the assumption being it was a Trump supporter. When it ended up being an illegal immigrant who committed the crime the story was dropped as fast as possible.
