Where can I pick up a generic sheet cake last minute?

LIterally any grocery store! Harris Teeter even has ice cream cakes all the time in the freezer.

LOL, my kid said he wanted a rectangular chocolate sheet cake specifically, and since he hasn't had a real birthday party during Covid I wanted to make sure he gets what he wants. I feel like I got a bit more than I bargained for clicking this link. OP, I hope your son has a happy birthday. I’m sorry that you are ill. What you say about your husband may be true, but it’s a good thing he will be there for your son. I’m sure he is also affected by your illness. So sorry you are going through all this, truly. Soak up the sweet moments with your kids and they will remember you fondly.

Wegmans. Go early tomorrow. They always have cakes. Giant always has some in stock. As does BJs and Costco.

If going into the Wegmans in Woodmore, and you strike out, Costco is right there, and BJs is 10 minutes away. It’s fine - your kid will have his chocolate cake.

Sigh again, yes, unfortunately I have because his self-employed business crashed during Covid lockdown and shortly after that I got a terminal medical diagnosis. He is waiting for my life insurance money and my 401K. I know this deep in my heart and can hardly stand him. However, do I want to subject my children to going through a trauma like divorce while knowing I may pass away before it's even concluded or shortly after? I have agonized over this decision and the answer is no. I also can't afford divorce as we are barely making it on my under $90K salary and I need to stay employed for medical insurance not just for me but for my kids too...and him I guess, and to keep paying the mortgage. I can't pay him child support nor alimony on my salary as it would bankrupt us, and I would never be able to afford childcare for my kids while I'm working in the office. At least he provides that. I do realize I will be pretty much working until I die to keep the family afloat and I'm okay with it now. I just want to minimalize the hurt to my kids and give my youngest a good birthday tomorrow. I'm not going to put them through a high conflict divorce (because, believe me it would be).

I did order the cake at Costco but I'm stressed that it won't be ready in time. I just filled out a paper and dropped it in the order box. I would have felt better about it if I could have actually spoken to someone there about it. I will go to Giant if it doesn't work out. I'm not very close to Wegmans unfortunately.

Hugs, OP. Your son will have a wonderful birthday tomorrow because you are making it so. He feels your love in all that you do and he will have that for all of his life. No advice re the cake, just hugs and prayers for you and your family.

Thank you all, I just wanted to update that Costco came through with the cake, although it was a madhouse going to Costco on a Saturday, OMG. I'm recovering now, there were like 20 kids here and about 15 parents/neighbors/friends It was kind of a stimulation overload after no parties for so long during covid. It was good though and I couldn't believe the entire Costco cake was eaten. Everyone loved it! When I picked it up it was so much bigger than I expected and I thought it was way too much cake, but no leftovers thankfully. Son had a good time after a few episodes of locking himself in his room to just have some quiet tiine and decompress from all the noise and kids running around. LoL, I'm sleeping in late tomorrow morning before continuing clean up. Just wanted to update that the whole filling out an order form on paper and dropping it at the box at Costco worked out perfectly. 🙂

Glad it went well! Sorry your H dropped the ball.

In the future consider using a cake mix and canned frosting. Get a disposable baking pan for easier cleanup. My secret to decorating is to take the party theme or my kids favorite toy at the time and get plastic toys of that theme and place them artistically onto the cake. Then add candles. It surprisingly looks good AND the birthday kid gets extra toys at the end of the party

This is what I always do, too. Walk in to Giant (or Harris Teeter or Wegmans) and have them write on a cake they have on display. Just did this yesterday for my DD's birthday. They had some really nice ones on display including a whole beach scene one (we just got a plain one). Costco's are good, too.
