Review of Dr. Gschwend

Anonymous
Just wanted to share my experiences with Dr. Gschwend, who delivered my first child in the fall. I had mostly seen Kleinerman and had only seen Gschwend once or twice, later in the pregnancy. I actually found him to be pretty cautious about bringing up a c-section (I'm a lawyer), which I brought up several times. Previous posters are absolutely right - his sense of humor is very dry, but I didn't find him to be insensitive at all. I met with him for whatever the appointment is where they talk to you about delivery, and he was patient and calm about answering my questions. If you're looking for someone in the practice who is warmer, I second the recommendation for Kim Severn, the CNM.

For various reasons (mostly of my own doing), I ended up with an elective C. (Save the flames, they would be wasted on me. This was a decision in which I actively participated and with which I am fine). I was scheduled with Kleinerman but ended up with Gschwend when Kleinerman had her accident. He called me at home the night before delivery and was terrific during delivery and after. I understand the previous poster's point that a c-section isn't the most technical of surgeries, but I thought he did a great job - my incision site was clean, small and healed quickly.

Nothing but good things to say about either Gschwend or Kleinerman.

Dr. Gschwend delivered my first child 2 weeks ago at Sibley. My regular OB was not on duty the day I went into labor and this was the first time I had ever met Dr. Gschwend. I did not like his bedside manner -- I thought he was rather cold and abrupt. However, he did deliver my son (forceps) safely and I am very happy that he was committed to delivering the baby vaginally and avoiding a c-section.

I have been going to Dr. Gschwend for 10 years and I am hoping he is on call when I go into labor. He is definitely straight forward and gets right to the information but I have always liked his candor. He has a very dry sense of humor and I think is fairly shy and it might come off as abrupt. I have had complications with my pregnancy and have really appreciated his honesty.

I met Dr. Kleinerman for the first time two weeks ago and did not care for her at all! I am hoping she is not on call.
