Do you really need a glider chair?

We love our glider! We moved it into our bedroom when our DS was first born. My DH is refusing to part with it now that we have moved our DS to his crib. We had to go buy another one!

Mom of a 3yo and 11mo here...LOVE our glider!!!! I wanted to get a cheap one, but my DH insisted we upgrade, and I'm so glad we did. Still use it at least 3x a day. We kept it in our room when the babies were still with us. Sometimes nursing in bed is hard on your back, and I wanted to be able to sit up, too. Even after my first was weaned, it was our story/snuggle chair. It's in the baby's room now, and I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

I bought mine from a friend who was going to list hers on Craigslist. It cost $65 and included an ottoman. Honestly, we haven't used it much, so I'll probably resell it soon.

Our nursery is 9'x7', so space was at a super premium. We went with the smallest we could find (Walmart.com) which had the added benefit of also being one of the least expensive (it looks like the typical glider, but the measurements are slightly smaller). I'm actually really glad we got it. We do the last bottle of the night there every night, I nursed there when DS was little (but I only nursed for three months), and we sit there to unwind a bit before I put him down for naps.

For me, there's no other seating on the top floor of our townhouse besides beds, and I don't find it very comfortable to hold the baby while sitting in bed. You have to prop up all the pillows, and they invariably deflate after 15 minutes, so my back always ends up hurting. It's nice to have any actual place to sit instead of having to go downstairs.

When we were expecting our DC, we decided to just invest in a leather rocking recliner for our living room. I nursed in that for 14 months quite comfortably and now we all use it for relaxing, reading, etc. Figured it was a better long term investment.

We didn't get a rocker/glider, and I wish we had. We have a couch in DS's room (and it's really comfortable, we use it for nursing each night), but in retrospect I really would have liked a chair, particularly one that rocked. We have a recliner in our living room that has sort of become our glider.

And I'll echo a PP who said not to buy a changing table. DS is wiggly, and we've always just changed him on a towel on the floor. Works great!
