| No, not required. My kid just took a change of clothes. Uniform was not necessary. She said nobody wore the uniform. |
| Does anyone know how this is done at Silver Creek MS? |
| Depends on the school. I had kids at two different MS. One required kids to change and other didn't. Neither required uniform |
|
No. I bought the suggested shirts and shorts one year and they were never worn
Save your money |

This is public school. Your kid will be the only dork wearing the school "uniform." No.
|
| It was the only spirit wear our MS offered, but definitely not requires |
| At our middle school the PE uniform money funds the PE department, not the PTA. PE tries to restrict PTA from selling spirit wear otherwise. |
My oldest did not change for PE even once in 3 years at TPMS. Apparently, only the students who were in sports teams ever bothered to change. There were apparently few in DC's class. DC brought deodorant to school, but rarely used it.

| Please, for the love of God, don't let your kid bring Axe! |
| We’re at NB and both my kids say they’ve never seen anyone change. I had a lot of angst trying to find the right clothes for the requirements for the oldest one! |
At orientation they said they recommend but don’t require leaving deodorant in your gym locker. That’s it. |

So when our DS entered MS, DH and I read him the written policy that kids must change for PE, bring change of clothes, nonaerosol deodorant, etc. and nagged him about it for weeks. We bought a Spirit Wear t shirt and shorts so that DS would bring those with him. DS liked the Spirit Wear but not changing. DS went to school in tshirt, shorts/sweats and sneakers and that's what he wore in PE. So at Parent Teacher conference we asked the PE teacher to "encourage" DS to follow the rules and change.
PE teacher smiled and said, you know, all we want is for kids to be dressed to move so your DS is fine; happy to check in with him but don't think it's really an issue.... And so the change of clothes remained in the backpack all through 6th grade. Will 7th grade be different? Tonight DS said he "might" change his shirt for PE tomorrow... Whatever -- it's in the backpack. As is the deodorant. |
They discourage students from changing in the locker rooms because they can't monitor what goes on in there. |
| They make a big deal about no phones in locker rooms but I’m not sure they have the capacity to police it. And honestly what PE teacher wants to be in there with a bunch of naked tweens enforcing behavioral policies? A lot of the PE teachers when I grew up were actually pretty creepy about it. |
+1 for JW MS. PE handout states that uniforms or at least change of clothes are required. Based on DS's experience, no one changes and "where would we change anyway, as there no locker room access because somebody got busted for dealing drugs from PE locker room". I bought a set of clothes in required colors just in case. DS does have deodorant in his locker for after PE. |
