The county could open 2 more STEM magnets and likely save money by reducing transportation costs. |
Blair is so much better than the regular schools there really is no comparison. The rest offer more or less the same stuff so I'd say they're all tied for 2nd. |
1. Blair and Poolesville (tie) 2. IB schools 3. All the rest |
Those classes are available at other MCPS HS but they are not magnet level. Big difference. |
| Blair allows non-magnet kids to take magnet math classes after they’ve completed Calc BC. It’s worked great for DS who is very much a math kid. |
Would agree, but mostly forget about PHS since it may as well be in another state. |
If not Blair, maybe she can go to a school which has a lot of the math-obsessed groups. I can't be racist here

You might find this presentation on the Blair magnet program helpful. The discussion of math courses starts about 4:25.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z7tIVLmhbXM Here is a description of the magnet math classes from the Blair website, although it may be less current. https://mbhs.edu/departments/magnet/courses_math.php The following terminology may be helpful: Analysis 1 - Calculus B/C+ Analysis 2 - Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations Complex Analysis - Advanced Calculus with complex numbers |
It is called the Russian School of Math. |
| OP still hasn't said where she lives. None of this matters if we don't know. I also don't agree that all the IB schools have better stem programs than non-IB. You really have to look at courses offered at each individual school to see which has the best stem offerings. |
I took MV Calc with Differential Equations at Churchill in the early 00’s. This was after AP Stats and BC Calc. I have to imagine that there are even more advanced options there now, no? |
Oh yes of course! The W have the very best of everything! Kidding aside yes these are offered at most every school. |
