I'm interested in reverse osmosis systems and asked about it in a post here and one response indicated that they can be gross as the tank holds water which can become swampy.

We are having an RO system installed in a few weeks. Our provide Culligan offers an option with a bladder and one that is tankless. Bladder was $1800 and tankless $3400. I have heard nothing but good things about the RO system.

A lot of water softner companies are way over priced. You can buy a cheap one from Home Depot and hire someone to install it. Otherwise, just go with a cheaper company.

So did you go with the tankless? Can you report back after you have it installed and give us some tips?

Are there any downsides to getting a water softener? I've always wanted one but read about it years ago and decided against.

We just had a whole house High Efficiency Culligan system installed last week. We have noticed a significant difference. Our water hardness level was a 5.

- No need to squeegee glass shower doors
- Skin doesn't feel dry and scaly
- Less soap utilization
- No more hardwater stains
- Hair feels nice and soft

PP who had a Culligan system installed and RO with a tank put under the sink. So far so good. Water is definitely better. Showers feel better, dishes look cleaner. The RO water is good. I haven’t heard anything about swampy water but I will look out for that. We have a wireless control to turn on RO water so it comes from the tap without needing to have an extra faucet installed.

We paid about $1k for install. This varies depending on your house set up. We are renting the RO because the guy told us it wasn’t worth it to buy because they will replace the filters for us and I guess they are costly. We are also renting the softener but may look into buying that in the near future. I think it is $140/ month to rent everything.

NP.. I had asked for a recommendation for a water softener installer a while ago.

So, I am reading Culligan, waterright?.. and other?

+1 My husband bought and installed ours and we have had it for over 30 years now. He orders the salt pellets once in a while. Works great.
