In 2011-12, Whitman's Asian population was 12%. |
There have always been more Asians in Potomac than in Bethesda. I don't think Whitman's Asian population was only 5-6% then years ago. I think it was still around the 10s%. It has not grown that much. |
| They both lack any diversity relative to MoCo and their neighboring clusters, WJ and RM. |
Yes, but especially economic diversity. The county as a whole has 35% FARMS, whereas these guys somehow manage <5%. |
Gosh, whatever could it be?
|
Boundaries that were gerrymandered to keep out the poor. |
yes, it has a building capacity for something like 750 students but in real terms it has 1500 students |
No. As of 2021, Pyle has a building capacity of 1500 and an enrollment of 1300. |
| Look at nearby WJ and Wootton HS neighborhoods as well. |
Aren't those in Rockville or Germantown? |
WJ is N. Bethesda; Wootton is Rockville. WJ is more diverse than Wootton. Or you could do RM -- one of the most diverse HS in the cluster. Or BCC. Both RM and BCC have IB diploma program. |
The boundaries don’t have to be gerrymandered because they are centered in vastly wealthy neighborhoods. |

They are both good schools. I think Whitman is stronger academically, although Pyle is very being and the Churchill feeder middle schools might be better.
Churchill has a more materialistic vibe. There is more pressure there to wear certain brands, etc, where at Whitman kids dress in whatever. |
+1. I think both are excellent schools, but Whitman did place first in Maryland this year. https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/maryland https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/04427.pdf https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/04602.pdf |
Both schools have a number of higher level courses in math and science. I don't know about art sorry. |
