How long is your school commute?

Our commute is 10 min. Before this current school it was close to 40 (no traffic) and it was hell for all (ok, being a bit dramatic here, driving my air conditioned car, to a private school...not hell just inconvenient). 😉

DD is starting at a K-8 in the fall. It’ll be 20-25 minutes.

Ours is 20 minutes, 30 with traffic. I don’t mind the drive bug like others have said, having classmates spread out in a 49 mile radius is not ideal.

Yes. 1-130 commute each way starts soon.

15 mins. Could not do more than 20 mins unless just kid is commuting via bus/metro.

10 minutes for HS. we’ve done a little more in the past, I’d say 25 would be my limit.

My own children’s commute is 11 minutes, but they’re in elementary. It’s perfect.

But, to add to the conversation, I went to a high school that was 35-40 minutes away. I loved the HS and purposely chose it, BUT, having friends everywhere (I had friends who were 45 minutes in the opposite direction), meant that I didn’t really have a ton of close friendships outside of school hours. BUT, we all stayed out of trouble during HS; since we were so spread out, there wasn’t a ton of unsupervised, unscheduled hanging out at friends’ houses.

Most days 30 minutes for HS.

15 minutes down RCP in the AM. 20-30 minutes home on Wisconsin/Nebraska Avenues in the PM.

The PK-8 school is in Georgetown and draws from a large area. With softball and XC, we spend A LOT of time traveling to sports practices/competitions in Arlington and far-out Maryland (PG Cty).

Most playdates are also in Arlington... Life would be easier if we lived in Arlington or went to a private with more local families.

Anyone ever used RubiRides for their HS child

Ours walked to school through 8th grade and have a 20-45 minute commute for HS, depending on traffic, and whether they take the metro (always longer to take metro given the walk at each end). It is worth it for them, and, as with most things, it becomes 'normal' pretty quickly.

25 min

Under 10 minutes WOOOO.

I will not deny that this was a significant part of the attraction to the school.

20-25 minutes for us (2 kids in K-8), it’s on the way to DH’s work. I would not want to be further away.

For HS if we are still in private, I might consider a 40 min commute if there is a bus option. But that’s only because our public HS bus route takes the same amount of time to get to our stop.
