Most definitely do not go on the weekend. You'll be crazed and will never go again! Families make it an outing with kids running all over the place, the parking lot will be a nightmare (and that is probably an understatement), the Iines will be long to check out, and my favorites: people who stop mid aisle oblivios to the fact that you are now stuck behind them, and those who casually stroll through the store (although on your first trip, this may be you), while you are trying to go in, get what you came for and get out.
That being said, my family does not like the street tacos. We do like the quiche, Don Miguel burritos, the shepherds pie (takes a long time to cook, not a quick heat and eat meal), the pizza in the prepared food section, and the produce (apples, berries, the bagged kale/cranberry salad, avocado, peppers, and so much more), hamburger buns, also the large hummus containers, large tzatiki container, sliced cheddar, shredded cheddar (having both available to sprinkle on tacos or make a grilled cheese sandwich is convenient), frozen bags of edemame, frozen fruit for smoothies, etc. As far as meat, I always buy a sleeve of hamburgers (in the meat aisle, not in the back by the other meat), ground turkey (4 pack), steak, and boneless chicken breasts and boneless chicken thighs (breasts and thighs come in a 6-pack, 2 large breasts and 4-5 thighs each pack). Luckily, we have a second refrigerator/freezer to fit all the frozen meat! And, I make sure to only go once a month, as there are always splurged on crap I don't really need because I think I want it. |
They have several varieties. |
The chicken salad is disgusting. |
Last winter you could buy just the mashed potatoes. In the frozen section the kids like the breaded talapia, chicken cilantro potstickers. Always the frozen shrimp. In fresh, the pasta bake with spinach and sausage is really good. |
This isn't what you are asking, but their manchego cheese is delicious, and a good $4/lb cheaper than anywhere else that I have seen in the DC area. |
The pineapple teriyaki meatballs and Korean bulgoi are excellent on the grill.
Lasagna and chicken satay are decent. Don’t care for their gyro meat- too salty. My kids love their macaroons and the boba tea kit. |
Kirkland marinated artichoke hearts are my favorite on earth
They often have good Kalamata Olives Wine selection is good |
I enjoy it. |
The chicken pot pie is delicious but sooo salty. I have trouble sleeping after eating their pot pie.
Meatloaf and mashed potatoes are a household staple now. I like the Yakisoba stir fry but the container is so huge I don't buy it unless I can eat it right away bc it literally will not fit in my fridge. |
I’m a huuuuuge Costco but I think all the prepared foods are pretty gross.
I do love their refrigerated pesto. The frozen spinach ravioli are really good. Some costcos have chicken flautas in the fridge section that are pretty good. Their cheeses are excellent if you can eat that much cheese. I particularly like the Spanish tapas sampler and the fresh Buffalo mozzarella. The frozen marinated salmon is very good. The frozen lasagna is edible. The frozen potstickers are pretty decent. They used to have frozen bean and rice burritos that were really good but I have t seen them in a long time, sadly. |
Their gravy at Thanksgiving is a lifesaver. Even if you make your own, get some as back up if things go awry- or slip it in pan when Mother-in-law not looking. |
I think their Parmigiano Reggiano is decent- maybe not as good as Trader Joe’s, but a nice size for the price. Their coastal cheddar delicious, imho. |
Please detail the “frozen marinated salmon”. I’m looking for this but don’t know which one to buy. Look again for the frozen burritos — I’ve seen them a lot recently. Sadly, my boys are not fans. Also, has anyone found a shaved rib-eye (for homemade cheese steaks)? |
My kids liked the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. DH and I do not. |
Fresh Salmon, Chicken and meats. Great price on fresh berries, organic milk & eggs. Love the bagged salad called avocado crunch -- but also, the plain lettuce & spinach is good. |
