Weird neighbor situation

So your ugly above ground pool that people probably scream in all the time is right on the fence line? No sympathy. There need to be setback rules for these annoying things.

Yes!

Also note that it only smells bed when it flowers.

Can't you grow some pine trees as a buffer or fragrant Lilian byshes or a crepe myrtle that flowers several times along the fence line?

This plant is in the backyard, no?

If you are in Maryland it is.

Also, in some states it must be grown inside, and if outside there needs to be a locked fence. Some states don't allow it to be seen from a neighbor's yard. So it varies. What state are you in?

I have friends who live next to "weed" growers. The friends say the odor is so strong that it smells even inside their home. Even if it wasn't planted near your fence, you would smell the odor at a certain time in the growth process. Not pleasant.

Just worried about the smell invading our backyard. Should I say something? What if they don’t want to move it? Or it makes the relationship rocky

LOL. When you said "weed plant", I didn't realize you meant a WEED plant. I've never been near a live plant before. How stinky is it?

Maybe just trim a little off the top to make it smell better?

Do not spray poison on something your neighbors are planning to ingest.

Use something organic.

The very large plant has been there for 2 months and I haven’t smelled a thing. Should I by now? It’s about 7 feet tall it just appeared in may.

I have never smoked pot. Never done drugs. Very anti-drug of all kinds. Once dumped a guy for being a habitual pot smoker.

My advice: MYOB

Don’t you have a life to live?

Are you OP? What state are you in?

But OP’s neighbor isn’t growing a field.

OP, next year plant a double (or triple) row of mammoth sunflowers. Protect them when they’re little (they’re beloved by birds, rabbits and squirrels) and then enjoy as they grow to 10 feet tall. Some weed strains can grow that large, but if they’re serious about production, they want the buds, not height.

OP, you have my sympathy! I have been in your situation and what started off innocuous enough, did actually start to reek after a while. I talked to my neighbor and he was apologetic and offered to pull them up. It was almost time for them to be harvested so I let him go on another couple weeks but it was super pungent in my yard. Whatever you decide to do good luck!

Cigarette smoke is worse, imagine them smoking that all the damn time in the backyard.

I’d leave it alone. Also, you don’t know if it is medical. I’d hate to go over there and find out someone has cancer or another ailment.

Wanted to add that there are plenty of “regular” plants around that smell like semen in the spring…..just saying….

I would wait and see if the smell actually bothers you. If it does, then ask him nicely if he would consider relocating his patch when he next plants.

I don't know much about growing weed, but nothing smells worse than a lousy relationship with your neighbor. Whatever you do, keep it friendly, focus tightly on how it negatively impacts you/your property, and fight any impulse to express judgment about what he does on his own property that does not impact you.
