A camp favorite version of this (although not the most healthy) is tacos in a bag. Put the meat and fixings in a bag of Fritos or Doritosch, break up the chips, and eat directly from the bag. That eliminates having a dish to wash.

That's called Frito Pie.

+1. Taco in a bag? GTFO.

Or Walking Taco.

Are you car camping? Is there electrical? I would do hotdogs, chips and salsa, and watermelon.

Thanks everyone! This is a single group meal on a three-day car camping trip. The group is kind of hard to wrangle which is why it could be the only main. We are on our own for all other meals (thank goodness). No electricity.

I was worried about the time and grill space needed for so many hot dogs but maybe that is the best answer. I don't care for chili

We’ve done fajitas but not for a group that big—you can buy pre-cooked frozen bags of chicken or beef strips and then just bring cut up peppers and onions.

Maybe it's regional? Many people call it that.

I've done butter chicken for a group that big. Cooked it before leaving home, warmed up naan bread over the campfire in foil and the pre-made butter chicken in a dutch oven.

Queso and fajitas also work well. Queso made in a big cast iron skillet over the campfire was a huge hit.

We routinely do fajitas - can do chicken/steak and have vegetarian options like black beans. Grate cheese, have sauces, chop veggies - grill if needed. Feeds a large number happily. Quesadillas you have to cook each one.

Hot dogs/burgers/chips/potato salad is a good one.

Breakfast for dinner - pancakes with bacon or sausage and fruit.

We also have made pizza for a big group using a box oven which is a certain type of girl scout insanity.

Haha I tried the box oven with my troop. Unfortunately the box fell in the fire so we'll never know if the meal would have baked.

We always have shashlik on camping trips. We put everything on skewers beforehand and then just keep grilling in batches.

Wouldn't that burn your hands?

Camp counselor again. You can grill them in batches, and/or get the special sticks to roast them over the fire for those interested.. Don’t just grab random sticks; they’re too thick and your dogs will fall apart.

Anything other than hot dogs is a mess with that big a group. Save fajitas and other real dishes for when it’s just your family.

Gross. Just because you are camping doesn’t mean you have to eat garbage. This is high school concession stand fare.

The whole point of doing hotdogs is to have everyone put them on a stick and heat them up over the fire. Outsource the cooking. I've thrown together a simple salad from canned black beans and corn and tomatoes that could feed a lot of people.

Where I'm from, Frito Pie is made in an actual pie dish with a crushed Frito crust and many layers of deliciousness.
