| Honestly OP and I don’t mean to sound harsh but a mantle with no fireplace is just going to look plain odd. I’m not sure what that’s going to do to your resale value. Just putting in my two cents. |
Op here. There are tons of examples of ways people make it work online. #4 is something I could do. https://www.thespruce.com/fireplaces-with-beautiful-tile-4153599 #29 is also nice, but bold! I went to hang a mirror above mine to make the room larger I could also put an electric fireplace insert and have a tiled custom surround made. My father does this sort of stuff as a side job. If I don't like the mantel, he can remove it and fix the drywall. Mantels add architectural interest. |
| It’s annoying but if this is your biggest issue, count yourself lucky. Yeah, I realize how sad that is. |
The house isn't finished yet. The patio area in the model is different than how ours will be. This wasn't explained, and there's no way to upgrade to that unless we bought the model. The patio is lower to the ground, but ours will be a high balcony. |
| Electric fireplaces are stupid cheese, gets a gas one or none |
NP. You're not helping your case -- both #4 and #29 look just plain WEIRD. But, it's your house, so you do you . . . |
That's your opinion. I don't think they look weird. The majority of Americans have a lot more stranger stuff going on. It's weird to have a fireplace no one uses anymore anyway. Electric fireplaces are safer. |
You sure sound like you’re from the South |
| Order the stone surround and place an electric insert in it. Done. |
+1 A LOT less than a real fireplace. How much are they charging for the mantel? |
$200, but only because of the mixup. The mantel is more than 1k. Technically I ordered an upgrade that I am not supposed to get because I didn't pay for a fireplace. |
| One basic thing to consider is that the mantel needs to blend very well into your wall and because the builder picked that one it should be fine. I wouldn't sweat it. |
They already did the work for you. The style and color of the mantel will blend perfectly into the background, so it will avoid a tacky look. I am assuming it's white? |
| For a more permanent solution, you can create an insert directly into a wall to look like a built-in with professional installation. At least you won't be paying for that with a home loan. You could do it when you have the money. |
DP. You thought you was really clever when you typed it out huh? How embarrassing. |
