Do walking sandals need a backstrap to be comfortable for longer walks?

Anonymous
Thanks all - I decided on a backstrap.

Now, my issue is whether the front part is most comfortable if the support goes around vs. between the toes.

I feel like I've had more issues with sandal straps rubbing the outside of my foot vs. issues with thong style sandals irritating between my toes.

For instance, this style looks comfy for walking and cute with a dress - but would the front part rub too much at the sides?
