| I still diffuse my hair with a dryer, but learning how to style and wear my natural texture has definitely made me happier. |
I love this! (insert heart emoji if I knew how) |
I relate to this article. Every once in a while, I try out air drying consistently for my wavy, almost curly hair. (It blow dries very easily into straight or almost straight). …. Then when I try it, I still feel like my hair is damaged. I am also convinced I have more hair loss on those days. My stylist said there wouldn’t be any more hair loss, but I really feel in my experience it’s happening. |
Clarifying.^ I feel like air-drying causes more hair loss and not much less damage. To avails heat damage, I wash and blow dry every other day. Curling iron maybe not every single time. Air drying happens when I’m busy, and I regret it almost every time. When I have gone through longer periods of trying to roll with my waves, I feel like my already-thin hair starts showing more of my scalp. |

| My hair in so much better condition since I started drying on the cool setting only. It's silky. |
| I have fine, straight-ish hair. I found that a mixture of air drying or microfiber towel drying followed by low heat to finish makes for the healthiest hair. With fine hair, I only need to wait about 10 minutes before I use a hair dryer. |
|
I have wavy hair. I often just dry the top from the roots through the first few inches to make it smoother and let the rest do its thing.
But if I’m working from home and not going anywhere I just let it all air dry. |
| I gave up heat styling and tried to embrace my natural waves for about 8 months. I tried all kinds of products and techniques but I was never happy with the way it looked. It was dully, frizzy and unkempt no matter what I did. So now I air dry about 90% and finish with a hot air brush, which makes it much shinier and smoother than anything I can achieve without heat. I use a heat protectant and only use the brush on low setting so I hope I am not damaging my hair too much. |
| I have fine, low density hair and need to remove the water weight with a hair dryer or I look like a drowned rat. I've been diffusing on low to keep my waves, but blowing it out with a round brush also works. Air drying does not. |
| Yep, many years ago. My hair is thick with tight curls. But something tells me the assumption isn't for a Black womans hair. Doesn't hair type matter OP? |
Have you tried plopping? This helps to remove the water while also helping the curl/wave "set" a bit before air drying. A hard hold gel (that you then scrunch out) also helps. |
| I stopped after my pandemic baby was born and haven't re-started. I didn't blow dry typically, just InStyler in the morning after letting my hair air-dry overnight. It saves me time in the morning but I haven't really noticed a difference in my hair tbh. Of course I have been dealing with postpartum hair loss and regrowth so who knows what the baseline is. |
