Quick weekend away - mother son trip

When I do weekend trips, I like to fly into smaller airports and Providence fits the bill.

I have never been to Providence, but Newport is awesome! There are lots of great restaurants. Go to Breakers and Marble House for some incredible mansions. The Cliff Walk was also beautiful. In terms of hotels, the Brenton is really nice and in a good location.

Quebec City.

If you’re willing to go to Canada - Montreal, Quebec, and Halifax are all great for a short trip.

Otherwise, I also agree on Chicago and Boston. Philly if you haven’t already done.

Chicago or Boston

Very cheap flights from DC to Boston although not that much different from NYC. Why not just take a few more hours and fly some place really different like LA or SF?

Willing to go to Canada? Like it’s some scary place?

Wow - that was unnecessary! It’s a fact that travel is messy right now and people may not want to deal with international travel problems, customs, etc right now. I just returned from Montreal myself and had a great time visiting family.

DP.

I know two families (one Canadian and one American) whose travel plans were thwarted in the last week thanks to Air Canada canceling or rerouting flights. One family had to rent a car and drive through several states to get to a wedding. Plus: who knows what will happen with covid.

So, yeah, not everyone is up for gambling with international travel—particularly for an impromptu long weekend.

Yes, the same thing happens in the US. What does being in Canada have to do with it?

Wow, some people are so anxiety ridden!

New Orleans - yes, it's blistering hot, but completely unique and unforgettable! 2-hour non-stop flight from DCA.

This is one response: Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard

In law school, professors would caution us before exams not to "fight the hypothetical". I never got what that meant. Until now.

The suggestion you quote is only missing "plays" and "city." There is lots of culture, good food and walking around at both places. I can't believe you got into law school. You don't seem smart enough.

Chicago or Montreal. If you do Chicago, do the architectural boat tour.

Not everyone wants to deal with long lines at customs.

I mean, it’s obviously easier to fly into a small domestic airport than into another country. There’s an obvious hassle factor.

And, aside from that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?
