Now that children under 5 are getting vaccinated when will the policies change?

We won’t be testing anyone else at home, that’s for sure.

How would the daycare know about household cases, assuming you don’t have multiple kids going to the same center?

Siblings at daycare are common. But also if anyone were to get a positive PCR test, you are in the system. The state of MD is still contact tracing, I don’t know about DC at this point.

Maryland isn’t really contact tracing anymore, and no one has ever been obligated to report contacts anyway. The daycare wouldn't find out unless you told them.

Is this recent? Because earlier this spring I was contacted by someone from the health dept after someone in my child’s daycare class got Covid.

Kind of.

There are two cases here: contact tracing positive PCR tests that are reported to the state, and contact tracing at schools and daycares. I don't know when contact tracing positive tests ended, but anecdotally it's been a long time since anyone I know has been contacted after simply having a positive test.

The contact tracing policy at schools and daycares changed on March 1, although MoCo's public health department is horribly disorganized so I suspect it took them a few more weeks to inform their staff and change their practices. When done, this was in response to covid reports from the school/provider to the health department. And it was hit-or-miss. Sometimes they'd report a case and they wouldn't get a call back from the health department for 2 weeks, making contact tracing moot. Sometimes they'd never get a call back.

Currently, they won't do tracing for individual cases, but they might do tracing if there's an outbreak at a center/school.

Also, keep in mind contact tracers get all their information from the people they call—mostly the person/parent with the positive case and potentially the school.

You’ve never had to talk to them. So when they were tracing positive tests, and you got a call after one child testing positive, you didn’t have to tell them you had another child in daycare.

I contacted them this week because it DOES impact my decision to get my son vaccinated or not. Im not vaccinating him for 30-50% efficacy with no evidence of decrease in risk for severe disease (with an even lower risk for severe disease anyways) if we are just going to have to play the same circle jerk game of quarantines.

I also asked what will happen if my kid is vaccinated and they are allowed to stay in class and not subject to quarantines but the teacher is not vaccinated. If the teachers (vaccination status unknown) are unvaccinated, because it isnt required, then my kids vaccination status doesnt matter.

As far as comparing to the flu .

I got a call from MD Department of Health informing me my child was exposed 8 DAYS AGO! I said, yes, I know he was exposed, he's been home for a week and I'm losing my mind and about to lose my mind, you're trying to contain something that cannot be contained. What a joke.

Meant I'm about to lose my job--my mind is already gone, obviously.

Yeah I know someone who just got a call too- so clearly there is sone contact tracing still going on, maybe they’re mostly focusing on daycares at this point?

Was it from Maryland Department of Health? Or the county health department?

And do you know if there were multiple cases at the daycare?

It was the Maryland Department of Health. Technically there was an outbreak (2 cases in the class), so maybe that's why. In any case, it's all obviously pointless.

That explains it. 2 cases in a class opens an outbreak "investigation," including contact tracing.

Such a waste of resources.

The Department of Health should really be trying to contain monkeypox before it becomes an endemic STI (that looks like where it's heading) rather than fighting an unwinnable battle to contain covid.
