Carnegie Mellon social sciences

CMU is tops for computer science but pretty average for its other offerings, except with maybe the theater department which is pretty solid.

Theater is more than solid, it’s outstanding. This CMU hate is so weird. I never hear anyone say “she went to ABC because she wants to study psych, sociology, political science”. These degrees aren’t compared much at the undergraduate level. But getting that degree from a school like CMU instead of CNU is better in all the same ways as getting a degree from UVA instead of Western Kentucky. Name recognition, rigor, and selectivity to get in.

I think someone here thought it was a safety and didn’t get in. Now they’re bitter.

Are you a CMU grad/parent? Sorry, didn’t mean to offend.

Sorry, that wasn’t aimed at you. I grew up in Pittsburgh and know several who’ve attended. Some family and friends but not me or my kids. It’s expensive now and there are cheaper ways to get a psych degree but the criticism on this thread is odd.

Why would you suppose social science majors don’t find adequate employment opportunities?

This is not even a starting salary.
Seems pathetic.

It is not. Ridiculous answer.May not be what it’s best known for, but to say it is shitty is ignorant.

+1
Humanities people attend schools known for their tech programs all the time. MIT has an excellent humanities program, as do many other “tech” universities.

STEM is not dull. Sounds like you lack imagination as well.

At the risk of feeding the troll, CMU theatre alums are making $$$ in Hollywood. I’m sorry you feel so bad about yourself that you need to insult someone else’s field of study.

$24,400
Salary of Theater Graduates with a Bachelor's Degree
The median salary of theater students who receive their bachelor's degree at Carnegie Mellon is $24,400.
This is great news for graduates of the program, since this figure is higher than the national average of $20,100 for all theater bachelor's degree recipients.

University shouldn't be a playground or hobby for rich people.
