You had a nanny unpack after moving? I really hope you paid her extra. I would never ask a nanny to do that.

We didn't tell the nanny to. But what was the nanny supposed to do all day in the new house? If the kids are happily coloring or playing pretend, why can't the nanny take clothes out of boxes and put them in closets and dressers? Take books out and put them on shelves?

BTDT. The sooner my charges' things are in place, the better. And if I unpack? I make sure that things are convenient to my charges and me, not the parents.

I've sat with the kids or unpacked in a central location while the movers do their job. I can direct them where to put things. DH directs them from the entry while moving things into better or more ideal locations. They don't need me or the kids under foot. The kids can watch a movie or play video games. I always have the internet set up first if I can. My last move with a 10 and 14 yr old, I did while they were in school. I managed to get the internet set up a few days before we moved in. If I can't arrange this, I'll use the hot spot on my phone for internet access. When they were much younger, I made sure to do it while they were in school or daycare. Infants and toddler age, I had extra pairs of hands on site to help with kids and unboxing/unloading. I've also taken the kids to lunch that has a play area. A 2000 sq ft house can be unloaded in 4 hours if you have good crew of 4 guys and the boxes were well labeled and well organized.

Same.
