Then punish those kids, not all. |
Why do they do this? It is one school system and I really don’t know why an issue like this would be school specific. Imagine if they let principals decide if it is a snow day or not. Lol. |
|
Too many trashed chromebooks, lost chargers, concerns about screen time. Costs $90 per chromebook charged to the student to replace a screen for example. But they won't fix them until summer.

That is not true. Why the misinformation? Montgomery County (not MCPS) is giving out 40,000 free laptops to anyone who needs one. They have only given out 10,000 (reserved) so far, so there are plenty more available. https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/obp/computer-for-you.html |
Sorry your your child feels punished by not having a Chromebook to take home |
Mcps tried charging parents for damages. I know some families were charged for damages and in other cases the families were never charged even after months |
We never got a chrome book and have only used our own. They are really crummy and the repair costs are as much as a new one. |
This is school specific because it is an instructional decision and those are decided at the school level. The school can decide what their school focus is and how to manage resources, and the chromebooks play a part in how they want to operate. Some schools may use them more than other schools. Some student populations may be better at bringing them consistently and have them charged and ready to go. If managing them 1 to 1 was not working well or schools were just not asking kids to use them at home, I could see switching back to the cart model being more effective. |
| I guess this means that snow days won’t be able to be made up online, which is fine by me, but we are not going to send out kid to school later in June for makeup days—no learning happens then anyway. |
Sorry that should have read “snow” days. |
It’s hilarious the parents that complained about virtual snow days as being useless when much more learning would have occurred on a virtual January day than these last few days of school. Anything to get their way though. |
