Great advice! Thank you. What did you all eat the night before long runs?

So- ice the legs, huh? Probably the whole leg and feet too, huh? Great advice- thank you all!!!!!!

I always eat something "normal" the night before a long run...maybe pasta, maybe a sandwich...I don't think carbo loading is typically needed for most of the long runs. I think the biggest thing is to avoid anything that is really spicy, really high fiber or really greasy. You want to start the day (run) with a calm stomach!

Re - ice. Sit in the tub filled with enough cold water and ice to cover your legs and feet.

Also, for ice, I feel better (although I'm sure it's mostly imagined) if I wear a sweatshirt and a bathing suit bottom. The ice will give you the chills and be semi-painful but it definitely helps the next day.

I schedule a regular 2-hour window in my work calendar, two times a week. that way i don't get meetings scheduled and i have time to cool off/change etc. a hard thing is getting around the American culture that it's taboo to run at 10:47, 2:13 etc. - but you gotta run when you can if your office culture permits. Also, i change on a different floor and then run outside - helps to keep a low profile about running while not actually lying to your colleagues.

After having a child I had to back down to running for half marathons on 3 days a week of training. It was enough to get me to the finish line but I was never going to get faster just stay consistent. I run one day after work - either hubs takes kid and I run or I run on the treadmill (yuck) while son is still in bed. I run first thing sat/sun mornings. In the summer I get up at the crack of dawn and run. Its tough the days of my long runs I don't have much energy left for dealing with daily life and that has started to impact our family. So I'm dialing down the miles to find a balance that works for everyone.
