Is Sea Island/Cloisters worth the money?

Having just been there for a work conference, it is not low-key. The old money wealthy vibe is extremely apparent. At least to someone who is not old money wealthy.

It is beautiful. It is also not my thing and I would never, ever drop $2k on 3 nights for just about anything. But I'm not a resort/cruise person. If you are, then it may be worth it if the cost is not an issue for you. It's absolutely gorgeous, not crowded (at least, it wasn't crowded mid-week), lovely beaches, good but super expensive dining, everyone was thin and wealthy and beautifully dressed.

There’s a dress code for every restaurant and activity so people are quite dressed up all the time. It’s self-contained with no vending machines or anything, you have to eat at a restaurant, order room service, or leave the premises to get food. There’s staff everywhere who address you by name, open doors, offer water and mints at every opportunity. Nearly all the guests are white and rich looking - women have blond hair, men have every neat haircuts, wear polo shirts with brand names, have their own golf equipment. Golf carts everywhere to ferry you around. Fancy bikes. Expensive gift shops. It’s all very curated. It’s beautiful. But its crazy to say the wealth is low key. You’re not staying staying here if you can’t drop $3k or more for a couple of days.

Having stayed other places at a similar price point I gotta say a lot of this is more southern than rich. Especially the level of hospitality and the blondeness of the female clientele.

Yes (well the guests, the staff no) but we aren’t white and had a wonderful experience despite looking more like the staff ourselves, FWIW.

Fair enough. Being from the mid-Atlantic and having spent a great deal of time in New England, it may well have been the Southern-ness that stood out, since I am used to seeing New England WASP rich and this wasn't that either!

While the Sea Island Condo may seem like a great vacation spot at first glance, my experience there left much to be desired. The elevators were in disrepair during my entire week-long stay, with emergency phones that didn't work and people getting trapped in the hot elevators multiple times. Despite complaints, the management did not take appropriate action to fix the issue. Additionally, the check-in procedure was disorganized and confusing. But perhaps the most frustrating part of my stay was when the air conditioning malfunctioned and the management offered no alternative but to stay in a sweltering room that was 85 degrees for 12 hours. Overall, while the Sea Island Condo may be in a beautiful location, the lack of upkeep and disorganization made for a disappointing vacation experience.
