Who are your AAP kids’ friends?

Mine has friends from school AAP and non-AAP, rec sports, and scouts. They're also in middle school, so fewer than half of their classes are all AAP students - math, PE, and electives are all mixed groups.

Our base is also a center so my kids have been at the same school since K. DD just finished 4th and she has as many friends not in AAP as she does in AAP. She also has tons of sports friends who don't go to her school. Se makes friends easily and is good about maintaining friendships. DS, who just finished 6th, is still friendly with kids who are not in AAP but his closest friends are in AAP and started at our school in 3rd grade or later. DS has never been great about maintaining friendships when a kid is not in his class. He has never made a close friend outside of school.

5th grade. Her closest friends are the ones on her soccer and lacrosse teams. To be honest, I have no idea if they are in AAP or not since they don’t all attend the same elementary school. As for the ones that do go to her school, they are in different classes. As they get older they make friends based on common interests. In my child’s case, it’s sports.

Throughout ES, my AAP kids were friends with other AAP students from their classes, neighborhood kids, kids they knew from church, and kids from their sports teams.

Throughout MS, my AAP kids were closest with the kids they'd known the longest, though they also made new friends in their classes (both AAP and other) and on their sports teams.

One kid is now in HS and most friends are from her classes, sports teams, and activities (e.g. SGA). It seems the majority of her friends are also either varsity athletes and/or honors/AP-track students, but that makes sense since those are the peers with whom she spends the most time.

Speak for yourself. I still talk to friends from childhood

My aap 5th grader mostly played with the kids in another (non aap) class at recess. They also play in the neighborhood and at the pool so there is really no differentiation in friends based on aap status.
