I don’t get this whole “gotcha!” mentality. Why didn’t you just discuss salaries with her like an adult? Why are you trying to prove she’s lying to you? Are you just going to put her through a series of tests to make her prove she’s worthy? You seem like the kind of guy who would, I dunno, get a male friend to hit on her at the grocery store as a test and then get angry when she doesn’t tell you about it.
How old are you? I stopped playing detective on salaries when I was like 24. If you want to get married and/or move in, have a grownup discussion about finances. If you don’t want to marry her, then her salary doesn’t really matter. |
True, but teacher salary scales are public everywhere too. OP, if you don't know someone well enough to know whether you can trust them to tell you the truth about publicly available information, you don't know them well enough to be in a serious relationship. If you are planning on setting up traps to see if someone lies, or if someone is planning on setting those traps on you, then the relationship is doomed. |

You would have to know what step she is on and what her highest degree is. It takes a little more than just looking at the salary scale. |
Like a FOIA request? Or he could just talk to her about their salaries. The real issue here is that you assume she will lie about how much money she makes, such that you think it is at all appropriate to do what you did. Who cares if you CAN get the information? That you felt like you needed to resort to something like this says a lot more about you than your girlfriend. |
So, he's thinking about a long term relationship with someone who he thinks might be lying about her degree, or how long she's been teaching? That's bizarre. |
| Total troll. Do you know how long it takes to get a response to a FOIA request?!?! She'll dump you before you get that info.... |
| what an idiot. |
| what is wrong with you? |
| I'm waiting for the counter-troll where the genders are reveresed and it's a bunch of "You go, girl!" for confirming the man is not a scammer and lying about his salary. |
You also often don't need a foia to find teachers salaries. So many of them are posted regularly on the internet that you can find them just by searching. |
| You are an imbecile |
|
Scenario 1: you're a troll
Scenario 2: you're either controlling, have trust issues, or both If Scenario 2 then I genuinely hope you get help, and not in a condescending dick way. Behaviors like this will follow you through life and only set yourself (and others) up for difficult situations. |
+1 Also, they do send a notice to whoever that info was requested about. |
| Why is OP so concerned about his GF's salary? This post is strange. |
