Feeding 8 people quick after an evening event

I’d do pizza but if you really want to serve something homemade, have some quiches made with a baguette and salad to serve on the side or a pasta salad

Baguette and a colorful roasted veggie dish would go well. Could go with a cold couscous salad - easy peasy. Grill some veg earlier in the week for some other meal (any kind - red pepper, zucchini, onion…), chop them small with lots of mixed herbs including mint, throw together with lemon juice, olive oil, dried cranberries, salt/pepper and you’re done. If grilled chicken I’d serve with tzatziki and hummus and tomato/cucumber salad and warm pita bread.

I would not be pleased to come home hungry after 8 pm to cold salmon and couscous.

It's the summer. I think this would work very well. All of this could be prepped in advance. Have plenty of yummy dips and bread.

I wouldn’t bother with a proper dinner and just do heavy apps. That way you save time on table setting and sequencing and just put them out. Grocery store or fast casual catering could work too. Or, do a hybrid. Get a chick fil A tray for kids and make something for adults. Or, get Chinese or Japanese food and pick it up. Don’t overthink it.

Deli tray. But rolls, deli meat, and grill some thin chicken breast. Prearrange a plate of lettuce and tomatoes. Make some sort of green salad (for anyone avoiding carbs, they can add the meat to the salad) and some sort of non-green salad (coleslaw, pasta salad).

If you want warm food, I would suggest a crockpot.

Most sporting events, school concerts, recitals, middle school graduation. Just to name a few evening events I’ve been through.

Yup most evening events aren’t providing food

Pasta salad or quick nachos— my family loves gathering around sheet pan nachos at the table.

I’d be picking up pizza but otherwise I second the suggestion for pulled pork in the crockpot. Serve with buns, potato salad and slaw (make ahead or buy).

A game.
A band concert.
A high school awards ceremony.

Lots of evening events don't serve food.

I'm extra lazy and I like these Costco items:
Rotisserie chicken street taco kit
Spinach salad
Whatever sandwich roll things they have

Make a taco station -prepare seasoned ground beef and cut up grilled chicken ,cut up lettuce ,salsa and onions . Have a bowl of guacamole as well as fried beans ready. Serve taco shells or soft tacos . everyone can fix their own ,you could even do grilled shrimp as a filling . everything can be prepared ahead.

I normally make Chicken Biryani the day before. Keeps well in the fridge and warms up beautifully in the microwave. Serve with a nice potato and pomegranate yogurt raita.

Yep, this is always what we do, too.

In family, for an evening event, people are coming straight from work, sports practice, aftercare etc . . . .

When you hit the front door, kids set the table, someone else shreds the pork, a third sets out rolls and bbq sauce while other pour drinks. Dinner on the table in 10 minutes.

This sounds perfect!
