ACT Test prep Recommendations Please

Has your DD taken a practice SAT and practice ACT to determine which she likes better? My DD definitely preferred and did better on the ACT, but it's worth a side-by-side under real test conditions.

I agree with the above PP who said the summer between sophomore and junior years is ideal. Shoot for one and done in the late summer or early fall of junior year, then that helps give information about the reach/target/safety list earlier as well. It takes a huge amount of stress out of junior year.

I agree with the 1 on 1 tutoring if you can afford it. We used/are using Prep 1 on 1.

Great tip; having taken precalc. Thank you!

We used Mary Liut Sullivan (mLS) tutors for this. DD got a 32 first time. ADS got a 34 and 36 on retake. McLean.

This approach was recommend by the college counselor at a Big3 private. If your DC is more advanced in math, prepping the summer before 11th may make sense. Also, another factor is that my kid has zero AP exams to study for this spring since they aren’t enrolled in any. Good luck!

My child has not taken precalc, will enroll in her junior year. Thank you for the advice.

My DC in Alg 2 not Precalc is doing prep this summer after 10th. There isn’t that much math past Algebra 2 and it can be learned. And won’t make much difference if you’re not aiming for 34+ on ACT. Going for the prep while they have the time. But we’re open to some refresher next spring for a retake if needed.

Same here; my kid took Alg 2 in 10th grade and is prepping summer after to take the test in early fall of junior year. Results will determine whether they do additional prep and retest in spring of junior year or go test optional.
