Virginia Senate Democrats voted to kill Republican governor Glenn Youngkin's proposed gas tax holiday even as the state's average gas price inches back up to four dollars.

All 11 Democrats on the Finance and Appropriations Committee voted Wednesday against Youngkin's proposal, which would have waived the Old Dominion's gas tax for 90 days. One Republican, state senator Emmett Hanger, joined the Democrats to block the tax holiday, 7News DC's Nick Minock reported.

Virginians last week showed up at the state Capitol to express their support for the proposal.

"This is something that is common sense," one person told the House Finance Committee. "Why would you vote against this? Why would you vote to take money out of my family's mouth?"

Virginians don't deserve services. When there's no revenue, then the government will shrink and Youngkin will be happy.

The last few Republican governors have slashed state jobs. Gilmour fired all the IT people so we had to outsource IT work so it cost more. Allen started his rule by slashing 400 jobs. It’s just a matter of time before corporate raider Youngkin does the same. It’s all he knows. Last time I checked they had a 30% vacancy rate at the DMV and I still struggle to get an appointment.

Isn’t CA increasing their gas tax right now? That’s what we need to do. We need to remove cars from the road and use the extra tax dollars to fully subsidize public transit for the low income. This includes services late at night when many get off from service jobs. Gas can be up to $14/ gallon some European countries. Ours is cheap. It needs to be taxed higher.

For example, if some voters really think that the VA Ds should NOT have killed this inane "tax holiday" that the GOP is pushing, then I'm sure they'll believe some other crazy claim that the Ds manufacture.
