Did your unhooked average smart kid get into Georgetown?

They want to see every score, you can’t super score and test scores are required.

It’s not on the common app.

It is very selective. Like Hopkins, we only had 1 kid get accepted from my kids’ senior class this year.

My husband had a perfect score on the SATs back in the day and was rejected. He got into Hopkins and Duke.

My niece a top student-UVA grad, medical school residency at Hopkins was rejected at Georgetown.

It’s tough to get into. Send your kid to a Jesuit high school if you want a little bump, still not anywhere near a guarantee unless very top of the class.

People always say Georgetown is an undeclared Ivy

My colleagues daughter with double legacy parents did not get it.

How were her grades? Was she highly qualified?

what I have observed (so, this is anecdotal) over the years from reunions & class FB group is that the legacy kids who are admitted are the ones whose parents are "involved." Organizing class reunions and events, performing multiple alumni interviews year after year, that sort of thing. Kids whose parents just check the alumni box but don't seem to do anything seem to be rejected. (I have never paid attention to who donates money, so I suppose that could have something to do with it -- but my theory is that it's the level of involvement.)

So - if my theory is correct, my legacy status wouldn't help

I agree with this 100%. I am also an alum.

My "average smart" DC got into Georgetown with no hooks. We're Catholic but I don't think Georgetown gives applicants any points for that unless they attend a Catholic high school, which my DC did not. Maybe it helped that my DC is a good writer.

To be honest, what I hope helped my DC get in is an understanding of the value of service to others. You might want to encourage your DC to pursue opportunities to serve and to encounter others different than himself. Despite Georgetown's wealth, it holds a spirituality that shares those values.

Best wishes for a good two more years of high school!

I have average smart kids. Dh is a physician at Georgetown. He is a professor at the med school. We hope that this will help our kids get into Georgetown.

DD attended the open hse 2 weeks ago, she met a lot of new students. Many are from private high schools and boarding schools.

No. Even had a few hooks.

My son did not.

It wasn't his top choice so he was fine with it. He did like the school, though.

Spouse did her PhD at Georgetown but is not an active alum.

I graduated with honors from Jesuit HS and still got rejected.

My kids’ DMV privates (2different ones, both top tier) have several kids get in every year. Only 1 or 2 ever chose to go though. Lots of folks I know around here (DC area) don’t consider Georgetown a top school for some reason. I do and wanted one if my kids to go but neither had any interest.

I heard that it is easier to get in RD than EA at Georgetown, not sure if that is true. My catholic nephew from the midwest got in RD but is going to Notre Dame instead.

There is a GU hater on this board, OP, who likes to play it down. Presume the exact opposite of what that poster says when (not if) they chime in. GU makes it incredibly difficult to be accepted.
