+100

To those who think they are tacky? toss them. Or gift grabs? Toss them and don't send a thing. Seriously some people are the worst.

I’ll think less of you if you allow your kid to send me one. And I promise you I am not alone in feeling this way.

You want the truth, OP? I would resent you for it. It’s 2022

There’s a trash can for a reason. Nobody would miss you if you jumped in it with the announcement.

True but my opinion of you as a mother would go in the trash with the announcement.

Something tells me people don't really care about your opinion of them as a mother.

And many thinks tell me you do care. Otherwise you wouldn’t keep trying to convince me that you don’t care.

NP here. Regardless of your petty typo-filled squabble, high school graduation announcements are accepted as tacky and a gift-grab.

Do with that information as you choose.

My kids are only in elementary and I have never received one of these. I think people post on social media?

We have been to graduation parties and I’m happy to give the graduate a $100 bill and a nice card.

+1!!
I love receiving them.

I graduated from HS in 1990, and everyone sent them. It was just what you did. I think each HS had a standard announcement template, and you ordered a batch with your personal details through your school from Jostens or wherever it was.

We didn’t have a lot of family or friends to send them to, but I ordered the smallest batch and mom helped me collect addresses. Grandparents, aunts & uncles, and a couple of my parents’ friends who had known me since I was little. I didn’t send them to my Dad’s coworkers or my mom’s book club or anything, although I remember my parents getting announcements for kids I’d never heard of, and even mom & dad were pretty vague about.

Was this just a Southern thing? Or did it used to be everywhere, and social media is now making it obsolete?

Graduated in 1994 from a Virginia HS and they were sent. Now have a DC graduating next month and nope not sending them, also didn’t do a big SM to do, personally OR on the parent page for the college he’s attending. We’re in the Charlottesville area.

I graduated in 93 in California and no one sent them--except as a gift grab

Maybe back in the 1950’s they were standard. When high school was generally the end of the kid’s academic career and certainly before the kids and parents had social media pages that announced the event worldwide and immediately!!

It is seen as a money-grab now.

But having 3 birthday parties for 5 year olds is perfectly reasonable in this area, apparently.

They are pretty low class but lots of people do them. They are a clear money grab.
