+1 It’s unclear to me if OP has begun composting at home or if they have begun using their municipality’s composting service. I love our city composting; according to the list we’ve been given we can compost so much (greasy pizza boxes and meat/bones) and the compost we got back is absolutely beautiful soil. |
Fairfax County has several drop off sites for things you can't (or don't want to) compost. Including the stuff that shouldn't go in the piles like oils and fats. |
We only take the bag out on garbage day. We compost food waste, I would hate to use extra bags when it is not full. Our kitchen garbage has a lid. Nothing stinks. We do not have much actual food in there thinking about it. |

The garbage disposal is from the Devil and should be removed entirely. (Laugh if you want—it’s one of the first things we did on buying our house.) Disposals are ridiculous burdens on water, sewer, electricity AND lost compostage. This is why they are illegal in many major US cities (including NYC). |
NYC has allowed them since 1997. |
+1. Only take out when full, otherwise wasting. You fill up a whole bag in a day? With what? |
We don't have a yard either so have used this service for years. Love love love love them, and they take a lot of things otherwise not compostable like meat, dairy, oils, even TP tubes! https://www.veterancompost.com/ |
Same here. PP uses a new trash bag everyday? How wasteful. |
We dont have a disposal so we try to compost as much as possible. |
Get backyard chickens! Ours eat everything scrap-wise (and make rich fertilizer too!) |
