+2. Dial back on the sunscreen usage and they'll have less dirt stuck on them, or at least they'll be more tan and the dirt won't show as easily.

It may be the sunscreen but what is more likely is that it’s messy eating (totally normal at 19M!) which means food on the hands gets into the face and everything sticks to the fruit and veggie residue. If you institute thorough hand washing after each meal and a wet washcloth for the face it will go away, but it may be easier to just teach neat eating and wait for them to outgrow it.

She's almost 11 now and she's still the kid covered in grass stains and ripping her clothes on trees, etc. I like that she still wants to run around and play!

+1. Could be the sunscreen or generally sticky hands, but also, some kids are like this. I was this kid (sideways ponytail and all), even though none of my siblings were. Now, one of my children is always a mess, and one isn't.

My DD was like this in elementary school. She looked like Pigpen. Like she laid down in a pile of dirt and rolled around in it. She claimed she didn’t do that. But all her clothes were filthy. Couldn’t figure it out. Finally, exasperated, told her to watch a friend of hers who always looked clean at the end of the day despite playing hard, and sit where she sat and do what she did.

I hate the concept that only the dirty kids played hard or had fun.

It sounds like you told your kid to play less. Is that what the clean girl did?

Exactly my point. Let the kids play as much as they want. OP is neurotic
