Dr. McKnight wants to use money County Council earmarked for counselors to hire more administrators

Another assumption: employees are capable of teleporting between locations - no travel time between schools is involved.

Are all schools getting wellness centers, or all HSs getting wellness centers?

Dr McKnight wants to use the money the County Council designated to hire 50 mental health professionals and hire fewer and use the money to hire more central office administrators/supervisors instead. Can she do this? It's infuriating. Here's a reporter's tweet about it. https://twitter.com/ramirezreports/status/1517277001668861953?s=21&t=AoQgFPCZJmf7_q3PSJjkQQ

So they're angry because 44 full-time and 15 part-time mental health professionals require 7 managers?

Well the work is going to be contracted out. So I guess the vendor that won the contract included supervisors in the bid? Interesting.

Reading between the lines they couldn’t get enough people to bite on the low paying positions so they needed to shuffle and create ways to make some of the positions pay more. I don’t have intel but this is just a guess. That said, it sounds like way too many supervisors to me if the professionals are actually qualified/trained professionals.

You analysis makes sense. However, if this is the case (and everyone knows MCPS school psychologists are underpaid) then why not sit down and rewrite the pay scale for the position?

You're correct. All HIGH SCHOOLS are obtaining wellness centers.

If this staff will only support HIGH SCHOOLS, then the numbers will look much better (by a factor of 7) since there are only 31 High Schools in MCPS. You can multiply all the resource numbers mentioned earlier by 7 which is better than nothing.

If that's the case, does anyone know what resources will be available to MS and ES?

Psychologist: 22 hrs 15 min
Social Worker: 1 hrs 56 min
Full-time School Counselors: 18 hrs 23 min
Part-time School Counselors: 7 hrs 15 min

Assumption: resources only work HS, leaders don't work, resources shared equally with all HS, staff teleport

There are 25 high schools in MCPS. And several already have wellness centers.

I guess it isn't really but I just like to complain about everything MCPS does.

So what are the odds this is the same poster who started all the fuss about the recruiting trip to the HBCU?

This is exactly what I was thinking

No I am a different poster. I could care less where Dr. McKnight travels or recruits. I do care about hiring as many mental health professionals as possible for our students.

I really do not understand how she got this job. I pretty much think she has no idea what she’s doing.

Because adjusting a pay scale has budget implications, both now and in the future. When you adjust due to recruiting, you also have to acvount for potential equity adjustment of current staff or bonuses to help align them to the new pay scale or risk current staff leaving. Additionally if anything is tied to salary ( bonuses, overtime, benefits, etc.) you need to be sure you accounted for those increases or changes. Also, as budgets are approved, there are process that have to occur to account for realignment of funds.

So while they may need to adjust the payscale ( and may do so) its not something you sit down and do on Tuesday and bam next week its all done, approved and actionable.

Also, if they did that a bunch of Karens would become incensed that this doesn't match their priorities, and post long threads about it.
