From reading about how controlled she was in ever aspect of her life under the conservatorship this is a way for her to take the reins of her life back. Hopefully things turn out well for her + the baby. Hopefully, the guy is decent, but that is doubtful.

A grown woman but mentally unstable and frankly her behavior in the past was downright scary she was incapable of raising her two bots, regardless if the conservatorship were too restrictive and long or not.

I think those kids are pretty much out of her life. They're old enough to have opinions on who they want to be around and I don't think she has ever been a mother figure to them. More like a "fun, kooky babysitter" they see from time to time.

I do think K Fed really stepped up to the plate with them, by all accounts he is a very involved father and it was not immediately obvious that would be the case when they were young.
