What age for complete bathroom independence?

It depends on the kid. My first was completely independent at 3. My second was still asking me to wipe his butt at 6.

After I read this thread, I let my almost 3.5 year old wipe himself and he did it. I though I had to wait! Now, forgive the TMI but it was a “clean poop” but I was surprised his arm was long enough to even reach back there.

I mean, yes, but sometimes it doesn’t come out clean. With my kid it can vary quite a bit. She has to do it on her own at school and does okay, but there are days when I know she didn’t get it all because I see her underwear. That’s why she bathes daily! I do think it’s good for her to practice, but I absolutely still assist sometimes at home because I want her butt clean! Age 4.5.

Oh, I know. But I didn’t think he could even reach back there. We’re still going to supervise poop-trips and do the final wet wipe. But I’m going to let him keep practicing.

PT DD at 2.5. Started preschool as brand new 3 and had to be trained and have bathroom independence to start; the teachers do not help. I spent last summer letting her work on post-#2 wiping and she got it pretty fast. Maybe every two months or so there’s some proof of poorer wiping in the undies and if she is sick or it’s very loose of course I help at home. But a lot of kids are totally capable of learning and doing on their own by 3 I think. Though my nephew who is 6 still yells for somebody to come wipe him so all kids are different!

My 2.5 yo boy wipes from the back, but he does it only for pee. I think it's because he sees me wipe this way and now thinks that's how it's done. LOL
