I would not fly at 31 weeks of pregnancy, given that I gave birth prematurely at 32 weeks! Even if you don't have that risk, there is an overall increased risk of blood clots, which will not be alleviated by a business class seat. |
Pregnancy is a tremendous change in the health and well-being of the woman. Business class is roomier. Are you dense? |
| I went on a two week work trip when I was about at the same time in my pregnancy. I upgraded myself on the way over so I could lie flat and just sucked it up on the way home. It really wasn’t that bad. |
+1. "How is it a legitimate health matter," WTAF. Let's guess, PP, you are one of those guys that thinks women should be denied access to abortion because "it's no harder than carrying a handbag around and she can just give the baby up for adoption when it's born." Pregnancy is a serious health condition, yes, dumb-dumb. And OP, you are not being a diva to ask about this. I have worked for companies that upgrade travelers at their request because they're "big men" and "need more room," or "sprained their ankle hiking" or whatever lame excuse. Plus if your company is already willing to pay $3K to send you overseas, they can suck up the extra. |

Get your doctor to write you a note - no travel after 30 weeks. My DW did this to get out of frequent domestic travel in her last trimester. Her work was wanting her out on the road 2-3 days per week during weeks 32-36 and she told them to get stuffed. Even at week 30, flying for a few hours was VERY uncomfortable. Her ankles swelled up massively, the seats are tight, etc. Eight hours each way, honestly, would be miserable.
You work can send someone else and/or let you Zoom into the meeting. |
| Unless you are an executive, no. |
Yes, Op would need to stand up and walk around every 1hr regardless of where she sits. |
| Whoever says diva has obviously never been pregnant. I would definitely ask. And definitely confirm with my doctor that it's ok to go. |
It is *much* easier when you’re not in coach. But there is also just the comfort issue which is 100% a legitimate reason to ask for business. If they are going to make her go, it shouldn’t have to be significantly more uncomfortable for her than it would be for anybody else in the company. Really I think OP should just not go though. |

Our policy is business class for anything over 6 hours.
I’d totally ask. |
| I have been pregnant four times and have flown at 35 weeks pregnant. I’m not quite sure how business class would help, to be honest. I would try to get out of the trip. |
I agree. I developed sudden and severe pre-e at 34 weeks and baby was born within a day of the diagnosis. |
My doc literally told me point blank that she’d write me such a letter saying whatever date in pregnancy I wanted lol. This is great advice and most docs will deliver. |
No one thinks OP is actually a Diva for wanting this. I think OP is trying to get a sense of how the request will be perceived. I 1000% think OP should be allowed to fly business, while also agreeing that the request might make her appear to be a diva. |
In the era of metoo and timeup, companies are bending backward to accommodate women. Just ask and they will get you business class. |
