Most of the apartments on the UWS are Co-ops. Is that an issue with mortgages since Co-ops you don't really own the apartment but own a share of the co-op?

There used to be actual differences between the two, in the 70s, 80s and early 90s but now they are pretty homogenous. It really will depend on which museum or school you prefer to be closest to, and that is all.

Uws. I’ll put it plainly for you: Tina fey, or Donald trump?

Yes, but...the restaurants are better on the UES so...

UWS for sure. NY'er

Where the Beretta store is for the tie break. Better shopping, club facilities and restaurants on UES but probably better housing stock on UWS.

UWS is smaller and more manageable. You can walk to both Central Park and Riverside Park/the water. You're always within walking distance to a subway. It's more homey and residential (meaning all blocks shops & restaurants that you'd use... UES has many blocks that are more office-y or super high end designer stores, etc.).

They are both big places though so you can find nice areas in both! Also, more schools are on the UES.

Agree, but there are cabs.

If you're Jewish, UWS has more of an observant Jewish population in addition to secular Jews, while UES is almost all secular and Reform.

UWS all the way. It's more neighborhoody and welcoming. Also, the UES has a lot of relatively inexpensive apartments, so a ton of younger people have been moving in, which is less appealing to me than a family-centered neighborhood. Others might look at that as a plus, though.

I used to work on the UES, commuting from Brooklyn. I am someone that almost anyone would call thin, but the lollipop head women on the UES took thin to another level. They would walk around the neighborhood in their driving mocs and pearls, with their tiny dogs. Both women and dogs would look at me disapprovingly, like B&T trash. So I'm not a huge fan.
