Hit a deer. Maybe totaled my car.

That is likely the speed limit on most 6 lane roads in MoCo. The deer should have known better! They put those deer crossing signs up for them. If he was not in a designated area, he was at risk.

Just because the speed limit is 35 DOES NOT MEAN YOU *MUST* DRIVE 35!!!!

A lower speed for the conditions is prudent. If there are deer everywhere then 35 is NOT a reasonable speed, is it?

Duh….

Oh God, you're one of the idiots tooling around the area going 5-10 mph under the speed limit, aren't you.

Estimate currently $4,500 but shop wants to bring it in for a closer inspection on Monday. Value is $7,000 on NADA and insurance will total at >75% of value ($5,300). This might all work out!

Get the insurance payout for the car and use the money to repair it. The insurance company will put a salvage title on it, but that only matters if you sell it.

Car won’t be the same after body/engine work. So there’s that.

We had a car that got hit and was close to totaled. The body shop worked with us to keep it under the 75%. Cars are worth so much more than their value.

I'm glad you're not injured, OP. Someone I know was badly injured when a deer crashed into their windshield. I myself narrowly avoided a jumping deer at dusk in a tight entrance loop to 270, with no room to maneuver or react.

And to some PP who said you were driving too fast, 35-40 mph seems perfectly reasonable on a 6 lane road...

They took the car apart this morning and determined the repair cost will exceed $6000. He emphasized this is a low estimate. When I mentioned that my steering wheel audio controls no longer worked he said that sealed the deal for him. There could be hidden electrical damage that would make the car too dangerous to continue driving. We will have to say goodbye to our trusty Honda Fit. The insurance claim is filed and I will start looking for a replacement car.

Thank you, yes, it could’ve been much worse. I was not going too fast for the road. I did notice several overhead street lights were out in that area and plan to contact the road maintenance folks to report it.
