| No FA from MIT means parents have enough resources. If that was in the plan all along, MIT. And depending on the major, the student may not need a grad degree. Masters seems to be mostly fully paid; PhDs however are usually funded. |

It’s not unusual for ivy plus students to have a full scholarship offer elsewhere. |

I feel that this is the honest conversation that ideally needs to happen before application.
320k post tax is a lot of $. On the other hand, they’ll likely recoup this (if economy holds up) in 3 years. Saving $ for grad school is moot; if going into industry, there is little need for grad school in CS. I told my kids we’d make it work for HYPMS, Caltech and T4 CS. T10 CS needed a longer period of introspection and discussion. Other than this, UVA or UMD depending on which is instate. Also may be useful to have a discussion now on how you’d expect future internship $ to be applied, or not, to cost of attendance. It can be a substantial $20-30k a year. |

With cs the school is not that important. |

BK full scholarship is not announced yet.
Am I correct OP? |
OP here. Did not apply for financial aid. DC wants PhD. |
OP here. Just announced this evening. |
OP here. Agree with GT if it is Stamps. Congrats! |
OP here. Thank you! We did not know about BK, and MIT was just a Hail Mary….very surprised about both. |
Op here. This is good to know. Thank you! |
If PhD is the goal, paying $320k post tax doesn't make too much sense to me. I also personally know two burned-out MIT grads who decided against pursuing PhD. Going with BK and then go to PhD makes more sense to me. |
